Lori McCurley

  • Hello 5th Grade Panthers! This is my 6th year wtih Bullard ISD, but my 23rd year in education. I began my career as a Reading Specialist in New Mexivo, BUT, where I found my passion for reading and writing was from from my grandmother (Grannyma), whom you will get to know and love through stories of her life this year.  She lived her 95 years loving to learn and loving to share her knowledge. My desire is to do the same and to pass along that desire to all my students.

I love to make learning come alive and encourage creativity in every aspect of reading and writing. I will challenge you to think out of the box at all times. In my classroom we learn, we laugh, we create, we laugh we analyze, we laugh, we interpret, we laugh, we get lost in fictional times as well as intriguing information...and we are pushed beyond what we thought we could ever do or be.

You will read and write more than you ever thought possible... and will grow to love it (eventually). My desire is that you leave my classroom with a love of reading and writing that you will take along with you through the journey of writing your own book called "Life".

A little about me... I am a mom to 3 boys! Taye, is our oldest who is serving our country as a United States Marine. He has been deployed in the South Pacific for a bit. Our hope is that he will get to come home and meet my classes at some point this year. Our middle son is Chayton. He is a freshman this year and loves football, Lacrosse and FFA. He has a BIG heart for helping others. Dax is a 6th grader. He loves entertaining, and life in general. I call him my joy boy, because he rarely is missing a smile.  My husband, Todd is the lab manager for the District TxDot office, and runs McCurley's Landscaping on the side. We are BUSY, as I know you all are as well.

I grew up on a ranch in Boswell, Oklahoma, until my 8th grade year. We then moved to a ranch outside of Paris, TX, where I graduated from North Lamar High School. I continued my education at Paris Junior College, and New Mexico Jr. College. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, with a minor in Psychology, from the University of the Southwest, in Hobbs, NM.

Buckle Up Buttercups...its going to be a fun year!
