School Attendance

  • Research shows that strong school attendance is the greatest factor in school success. A student's - and parent's - priority should be to attend school regularly and be on time. Showing up on time daily is important to your child’s success and learning from preschool forward.

Being absent unnecessarily from school not only impairs a student’s opportunity to succeed, it also indirectly encourages the development of poor attitudes toward schoolwork and other obligations. A significant part of the learning process occurs in direct instruction from the teacher and the interaction between students and teachers within the classroom; completing makeup work, worksheets, and other assignments cannot take the place of these essential interactions in the classroom. Communications between students, families, and school district personnel are important to understanding how attendance plays a role in a student’s overall success.

We must all work together for a student to have the best educational experience possible and to take advantage of all of the opportunities available.

    When Your Student is Absent:

    • Call your child's school on the day of the absence to notify the attendance clerk of the reason for the absence, OR you can also submit an absence note through ParentSquare. Notes must be submitted within 3 days of the child returning to school.
    • In the absence note, please state the student's name and grade, along with the reason for the absence, and should be submitted the day the student returns to school.
    • A student who is absent for 5 or more consecutive days will need to turn in a doctor's note to their campus upon the student's return to school.

Regular School Attendance is the LAW

    • Texas Compulsory Attendance Law requires children to attend school each day instruction is provided.
    • A child is truant if they fail to attend on 10 or more days or parts of days within a 6-month period in the same school year.
