• BULLARD ISD COUNSELING SERVICES

     

    The Bullard ISD Comprehensive Guidance Program is designed to align with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and our local Bullard ISD Mission and Vision. 

    The role of BISD counselors is to promote student growth academically, socially, and emotionally. Counselors collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and members so the community.

    The Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs includes 4 main components:

    • Guidance Curriculum (Lessons and skills taught that assist in the development of student academic, personal and social growth.)
      • Organizational, study and test-taking skills
      • Education in understanding self and others
      • Coping strategies
      • Peer relationships and effective social skills
      • Communication, problem-solving, decision-making and conflict resolution
      • Career awareness, exploration and planning
      • Substance abuse education
      • Multicultural/diversity awareness
    • Individual Student Planning (Meeting with individual students to develop goals and plans that facilitate personal growth.)
      • Goal-setting/decision-making
      • Academic planning
      • Career planning
      • Education in understanding of self, including strengths and weaknesses
      • Transition planning
    • Responsive Services (This includes prevention, remediation, and crisis services.  These services include dealing with difficult situations such as trauma, grief, or distress.)
      • Individual and small group counseling
      • Individual/family/school crisis intervention
      • Peer facilitation & mediation
      • Consultation/collaboration
      • Referrals when appropriate
    • System Support (This component includes ways the counselor supports the goals and objectives of the school in the areas of academics, personal, social, and emotional well-being.)
      • Professional development
      • Consultation, collaboration and teaming
